The beloved British character actor who brought magic and adventure to the big screen has passed away.

Byrne's career spanned decades of unforgettable roles. Beyond the blockbusters, he starred in Mel Gibson's "Braveheart" and appeared on the long-running British soap "Coronation Street." The actor also cut his teeth at the prestigious National Theatre in London, where he worked alongside legends like Laurence Olivier and Maggie Smith, cementing his place as a true titan of British theatre and film.
From sweeping historical epics to wizarding worlds, Byrne brought gravitas and presence to every role. His body of work—which included plenty of war films throughout the 1970s—made him a familiar face to generations of film and TV lovers across the globe.
