MAD MAX VILLAIN KJELL NILSSON DEAD AT 76

The Swedish strongman who terrorized the Outback as Lord Humungus in the 1982 classic has passed away after a long illness.

Kjell Nilsson, the imposing Swedish bodybuilder and actor who became a cult-film legend as the masked, leather-clad Lord Humungus in George Miller's "Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior," has died at 76. According to Variety and Deadline, Nilsson passed away on July 2 in Queensland, Australia, after battling kidney complications for four years. His family announced the news via Facebook.

Nilsson's unforgettable turn as the terrifying warlord in the 1982 action masterpiece cemented his place in cinema history—even if it was behind a sinister mask. The Swedish weightlifter brought an intimidating physical presence to the role, making him one of the most visually striking villains of the sci-fi action era.

Though "The Road Warrior" remained his most famous credit, Nilsson carved out a unique niche in entertainment as a towering character actor whose look alone could command a scene. He became a favorite among cult-film devotees and remained beloved by "Mad Max" fans for decades.
