AUTHOR TOMI ADEYEMI WON'T WATCH HER OWN MOVIE
The 'Children of Blood and Bone' novelist is officially stepping back from the big-screen adaptation—and she's being pretty real about why.
Hold up—when your own book gets the Hollywood treatment with A-list talent like Amandla Stenberg, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Viola Davis, you'd think the author would be front-row opening night, right? Not this time. Tomi Adeyemi just dropped a bombshell, telling fans she will NOT be watching Gina Prince-Bythewood's film adaptation of her 2018 YA hit, which hits theaters January 15 from Paramount.
According to The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline, Adeyemi revealed the news when a fan asked why she hadn't been more vocal about the upcoming film. Her response? It's been "painful." The author is now "officially separating" her name from the project, stepping back from what should be her moment of triumph.
While Adeyemi hasn't spilled all the tea on what went down behind the scenes, it's clear the journey from page to screen didn't go the way she'd hoped. Sometimes the magic that works in a book just doesn't translate—and sometimes, an author knows it before the popcorn even starts popping.
