Jack's descent: slow-burn possession, or a man whose rage was always there?Discussion starter

Kubrick never shows us a supernatural force *making* Jack turn. He just gets steadily worse—the typewriter, the bathroom, Grady's whispers. Is the hotel corrupting him, or just unlocking who he already was?
