Does Remy controlling Linguini by his hair undermine the film's whole message?Discussion starter

Remy literally puppets Linguini for most of the movie—then the film frames his stepping back as character growth. But didn't Remy just trick everyone into eating his food under false pretenses? How is that different from what Skinner does?
